Abutment-Implant Coupling

The quality of the implant-abutment coupling was assessed by micro computerized tomography, studying the case of the conical-hexagonal connection.

The results showed that the abutment-implant connection is highly coupled with few and very small spaces, among abutments, implant collar and connection screw. It is believed that these spaces, smaller than 25 microns and present only within the connection, are not sufficient to allow the penetration of bacterial agents.

The three-dimensional reconstructions shown in the images below underline the presence of several points of contact both between the abutment and the internal part of the implant collar.
